About

Meegan May is a writer for the screen, stage, and airwaves.

She loves sci-fi, straddling the line between comedy and drama, and writing across different forms.

Her TV project VIEWERS, written during her MFA in screenwriting, was shortlisted in the Australian Writers’ Guild’s John Hinde Award and Final Draft’s Big Break Competition among others. Her recent scifi pilot WATCHME has found similar success in these contests in 2022.

A decorated ex-soldier and veteran of the Afghanistan conflict, Meegan spent nearly five years working in military intelligence. Her Army background inspired the drama script THE ANALYST which won the 2019 AWG’s Pathways McCraith House Writer’s Residency. The same year Meegan received support from VicScreen and SBS to develop the short-form series SEEKER.

Meegan has also worked extensively in development, including as Assistant Scripted Development Producer at Seven Studios, and as a writer’s assistant in over 30 writer’s rooms, including Amazon Prime’s DEADLOCH and Disney’s THE ARTFUL DODGER. She’s also worked as script coordinator on the SBS mini-series SAFE HOME and Stan’s ROMPER STOMPER.

She now works regularly as a writer in TV writer’s rooms, and is the writer of the new Quinn Original audio series COMPROMISED, starring Victoria Pedretti (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Netflix’s You).

So Nice Productions

Meegan also regularly co-writes with writer/producer Lauren Anderson under their partnership “So Nice Productions”.

Collaborating since 2017, in love since 2018 - together Lauren & Meegan have written the award-winning comedy short THE GINGER CONSPIRACY and a short work for Theatre Works as part of the Green Room Award winning SHE IS VIGILANTE. Their first full length play, THE COUNTDOWN, was developed as part of a residency with Theatre Works.

Their creation STARSHIP Q STAR was shortlisted for the AWG / Audible Podcast writing competition and receiving funding from Creative Victoria and the City of Melbourne, and they were both recently chosen to take part in Co-Curious’s STORIES FROM ANOTHER AUSTRALIA initiative.

Since its release, STARSHIP Q STAR has rocketed up the podcast charts around the world, hitting #1 in Comedy Fiction in over fifty countries, and the Top 10 or better in the Fiction chart in over 50 countries including #1 in Australia. It’s been accepted into festivals all over the world, winning multiple awards, and is part of the ABC & Screen Australia’s Fresh Blood Program - where they are developing an animated series.
